WHO’S A STAR THEN!!!

High School Student Kelly is a very ambitious young lady who is determined to fulfil her dreams of an acting career.

From the age of six she was certain that working in theatre was her ultimate aim in life.

She joined the Norwich Young Peoples Theatre (NYPT) and, within a few months auditioned for a part at The Jubilee Players Theatre Group, in Coltishall – and – got it!

Kelly, 16, who lives in Spixworth, has recently been featured in a Theatrical Magazine and is studying for her GCSE’s, including PE and Drama, at Sprowston High School.

Last year Kelly, injured her knee during a school team football game which resulted in her having surgery.  Undeterred, she continued her course work and impressed the teachers so much; she was awarded  ‘The Pete Braden Award’, for Determination and Courage.

Although the surgical procedure was successful, a small problem arose resulting in a second ‘op’.  Last month Kelly went into hospital for her second operation and returned home confident that the knee problem had been corrected.  “I am so grateful.  They were very kind to me in hospital”, she said.

A week later she was allowed back to school and hobbled in on crutches to continue her course studies.

Part of her Citizen Exam, was to ‘raise money for a charity’, so Kelly decided to express her gratitude to The Orthopaedic Department at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, by arranging a Charity Netball Match, at school to raise the money for orthopaedic research.

The Teachers versus the Students was a sponsored match and raised over £150.00.

A few days ago, Kelly proudly presented the cheque to Mr Glasgow, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, who had performed the operation on her knee.  On receiving the monies for orthopaedic research, Mr Glasgow, said, “Kelly is a very brave young lady and a great example to many”.

Last week Kelly was rewarded for her gallant efforts.  After having her knee dressing removed, she returned home to find a letter on the doormat.  The letter confirmed she had been accepted, out of 130 applicants – for a place at Drama College.  “This is fantastic”, she yelled!

This happy story comes at an appropriate time, when the charity ‘ACTION ARTHRITIS’ is encouraging an ‘Orthopaedic Awareness’ policy with a sponsored Norwich Orthopaedic Walk at THE LOWER SCHOOL BISHOPGATE, adjacent to NORWICH CATHEDRAL ON SUNDAY 24 JUNE 2007 FROM 12.30 - 4PM

Kelly is also doing the Walk by obtaining her own sponsors
