History Action Arthritis

Action Arthritis was founded in 1990 by the late Mr Hugh Phillips, and Mr Keith Tucker. It was originally called "The Norwich Hip Trust". The original funds came from the royalties of a new hip replacement which were generously donated by them. The Trust was set up for "the relief of sickness in the Norwich Health District".

It was decided to broaden the remit of the Trust to include all musculoskeletal disorders and to cover the whole of Norfolk. The name of Action Arthritis was then used to signify this change.

Action Arthritis aims to promote all aspects of musculoskeletal disease to improve the well being of patients. It therefore funds:

  • Research projects
  • Educational programmes
  • Travelling fellowships (for a person to gain new knowledge)
  • Purchase of equipment for research
  • Support staff for research

It is open to all healthcare professionals, including doctors and nurses, who work in Norfolk.
