Action Arthritis has supported Nurses, physiotherapists and podiatrists to attend courses and meetings to present research findings and to further their education.

In addition to this since 2000 some of the grants given have been to the following projects:

  • £2000 for research into osteoarthritis of the knee – Lecturer at UEA
  • £7000 for a study into the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture to purchase carbon fibre splints awarded to a junior doctor
  • £400 for patient education aids for occupational therapists treating patients with hand problems
  • £4000 for a project looking at different ways of imaging the knee joint awarded to a radiologist
  • £19000 for project looking at the gene profiling of the proteins in Dupytrens disease awarded to a doctor (see research diary)
  • £3500 for a freezer to store cartilage samples for a project looking at the gene profiling of proteins in osteoarthritis
  • £12500 grant to School of Biology at UEA for gene profiling of the musculo skeletal system
  • £3000 for a project looking at driver brake reaction time following partial knee replacement awarded to a junior doctor,
  • £10000 to look at the prevalence of joint hypermobility and associated symptoms in an adult population from primary care in Norfolk awarded to a Consultant Rheumatologist
  • £18000 to look at what evidence already exists about the genetic basis for osteoarthritis
